Former Miss USA Rima Fakih's mother robbed at gunpoint in Ferndale

(WXYZ) - “I almost lost my mom,” said Rima Fakih.

Former Miss USA Rima Fakih was performing at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival when she found out someone held her mom at gunpoint.

“I get the call and I swear to God they pulled the plug.  They all were like, 'go home now,'” said Rima.

She took the next flight home to be by her mom’s side.

“I blame me.  I told her it’s my fault.  Because I felt like I should’ve done something,” said Rima.

There was nothing the beauty queen or anyone could have done.  The armed robbery happened at 4 pm Monday as Nadia Fakih closed up a doctor’s clinic on Livernois in Ferndale.

“He came to fast from outside and he put the gun to my face and he told me, give me your money, give me your money,” said Nadia Fakih.

Even with a gun in her face, Nadia told the masked man, no.

“So I tell him I don’t have money, I don’t have money,” said Nadia.

She hid $200, all they kept up front, behind her back.

“He said, 'stay here', and went in the doctor’s room,” said Nadia.

Terrified, Nadia hid under a table out of sight while the man stole prescription drugs.

“I didn’t believe I was going to be alive,” said Nadia.

The gunman quickly left after he went into the doctor’s room.  He left Nadia alive and has her daughter calling for change in metro Detroit.

“We’re laying off cops everyday.  We are paying them poor money.  They have no health insurance.  It’s like take it or leave it.  And, I don’t think I’m going to leave until something is done,” said Rima.
