Gilbert, Ilitch among many Michiganders on list of Forbes' richest in US

Quicken Loans Founder Dan Gilbert and Ilitch Holdings owner Marian Ilitch are among many people with Michigan roots on Forbes list of the Richest People in America.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who grew up in Farmington Hills, is the highest Michigander on the list at No. 15. He is worth $33.6 billion.

Hank and Doug Meijer, the co-chairman of Meijer, come in at 73rd on the list with a $7 billion net worth.

Next is Gilbert who comes in tied at 108th with a net worth of $5.8 billion. Marian Ilitch is tied at 108th worth $5.2 billion and Tom Gores comes in tied for 200 with $3.7 billion.

Other notable people with Michigan ties include Alphabet CEO Larry Page at No. 9 with $44.6 billion. Alphabet is Google's parent company and Page graduated from the University of Michigan.

New York real estate chairman Stephen Ross is tied at No. 65 worth $7.5 billion. Ross attended both the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.

Bill Gates tops the list worth $89 billion, followed by Amazon CEO and Founder Jeff Bezos worth $81.5 billion, Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Bufet worth $78 billion, Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg worth $71 billion and Oracle Founder Larry Ellison worth $59 billion.
