(WXYZ) - Charlotte Ponce, the 11-year-old who was mauled by a raccoon as a baby, is feeling good - but tired - after becoming one step closer to getting a new ear.
Since she was a baby, she’s undergone several surgeries.
Wednesday, she was recovering from a procedure where doctors created an ear using cartilage from her ribs.
They placed the ear inside her arm to grow skin. It will stay there for eight weeks and will be attached to her head in June at Beaumont Children’s Hospital.
It will be an early birthday wish come true for Charlotte who turns 12 on June 25.
Charlotte told 7 Action News after that she will be able to accomplish a dream she has wanted for a long time.
"I'm going to get my ear pierced," said Charlotte.
Her mother, Sharon Ponce, would not be surprised if charlotte gets several pairs of earrings.
“I think she will be tucking her hair behind her earrings. We will probably see a lot of bling.”
After several news stories, Charlotte has gotten a lot of mail and she enjoys reading letters as she recovers.
You can send her a letter at P.O. BOX 397, Fruitport, MI 48415.
