(WXYZ) - The compensation fund General Motors set up for victims of defective ignition switches in certain cars will start taking claims on Friday, August 1.
Those who file will be required to prove the defect was the proximate cause of death or injury in an accident.
Fund administrator Kennth Feinberg will determine the eligibility and amount of the compensation.
The deadline for filing a claim is December 31.
