(WXYZ) - General Motors is expected to make a big announcement Tuesday, regarding an investment in electric car research.
$450 million would be split between the plant in Hamtramck, and the Brownstown battery plant.
GM will unveil details on Tuesday afternoon at the Detroit Athletic Club, as it hosts the Automotive Press Association Luncheon.
Both Governor Rick Snyder and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan are scheduled to be there, as the company announces plans for future products and battery technology development.
The money would reportedly retain or create 1,400 jobs, while bolstering production of hybrid electric vehicles; particularly the Chevy Volt and Cadillac ELR.
The announcement comes amid slow sales for the Volt, despite a drop in price.
We're expected to learn more when GM makes its presentation around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.
