Grand Rapids natives plan 50-city road trip to promote Michigan

VIDEO: Jeff Barrett talks about trek across state

(WXYZ) - Two Grand Rapids men are taking their love for Michigan on the road.

Business partners Jeff Barrett and Rob Bliss are about to embark on an extraordinary road trip through the state to help highlight everything the Great Lakes state has to offer.

The goal: visit 50 cities in just one week.

And they'll be filming all of their adventures along the way.

Once they're done, they'll create a video that will serve as a way to help tell the story of Michigan as a great place to live, work, play and build a business.

Pure Michigan, the nationally recognized campaign to promote Michigan as a top U.S. destination for business, talent and tourism, has agreed to help promote this journey. The trip will take place in an "Imported from Detroit" Chrysler 200S, made in Sterling Heights, MI.

The road trip will start Sunday and finish on Sunday, Aug. 26.

Stops in the metro Detroit area include the Detroit Institute of Arts, Comerica Park, Royal Oak, Ann Arbor and Dearborn.

The general public is welcome and encouraged to participate in these filmed events as Barrett and Bliss come to their city.

Those curious about what events will be happening near them can visit the Pure Michigan Blog to find a map and basic itinerary of the trip.

Barrett and Bliss are no strangers to viral video hits. In 2011, the creative duo teamed up to help create the now-famous Grand Rapids lip dub of the hit song, American Pie.
