ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) - A popular grocery in Metro Detroit is banning the use of cell phones... sort of.
When the deli counter calls out a number, it seems some shoppers are focused on some different numbers. But at Royal Oak’s Holiday Market deli, the cell phone is going the way of the cigarette.
And even in a rush, they will from time to time, hold their fingers up in the middle of an order," said Holiday Market employee Christopher Minni, "Because they have to talk on the phone for minute."
These gadgets are practically a part of our hands, and store managers say the signs are more of a reminder than a rule. Holiday Market says the phones don't mean you won't get service.
“Oh, absolutely not," said assistant manager Brian Croze, "We’re certainly a lot more accommodating than that."
Shelby Howard was on the phone with her husband, waiting in line, when she noticed the sign and promptly hung up before ordering.
"My husband was on the phone, and I was like, 'I have to get off the phone.'” said Howard, who says the signs are a good thing.
"Don’t be rude, get off the phone, they’re making your food." said Howard.
