Group holds prayer outside local gun shop and shooting range

SOUTHFIELD (WXYZ) - Outside Action Impact in Southfield, Reverend Charles Williams II led a small group in prayer and called on lawmakers to tighten gun control laws and ban the sale of assault weapons (military-style rifles and high capacity magazines).

"We don't need to promote more shooting. We need to take guns out of people's hands and promote less shooting," said Rev. Williams II who is a member of the National Action Network.

Bill Kucyk, owner of Action Impact Gun Range and Firearms Store, believes the solution includes tightening security at schools and having more well-trained armed citizens.

Since Friday's tragedy in Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary, Kucyk says business has increased with people seeking training and firearms for protection.

"To protect not only themselves and their family, but maybe you and your family, or me and my family. And that's what they're doing and that's what I respect about it all," said Kucyk.

On Wednesday, members of the National Action Network plan to meet with lawmakers in Washington D.C. to discuss gun control, voting rights issues and the "fiscal cliff".
