(WXYZ) - One of the areas most impacted by recent flooding is the City of Hazel Park. It's been under a state of emergency and home owners are still drying out.
Hazel Park Mayor Jan Parisi says, "Mother Nature didn't call me and tell me it was coming, so we didn't know."
7 Action News went along on a walking tour of areas hardest hit. Even on her own street near 9 Mile and John R, you can see giant piles of trash lining the curbs.
"Water was up to everybody's steps. It was a lake, it really was" says Parisi.
Just about every inch of the 2.2 square mile community was touched by water woes. Thankfully, no one was hurt. But in some cases, pets and people were exposed to sewage with an awful smell.
Now, some are hoping FEMA can provide assistance.
"Everything in my basement-- washing machine, dryer, entertainment system, all trashed and a whole puddle of water out in the street," says neighbor Carla Coleman.
