Warren 37th District Court evacuated due to HAZMAT
WARREN, Mich., (WXYZ) - Officials have given the all clear after Monday's HAZMAT situation at the 37th District Court in Warren.
However, the court, which is located on Van Dyke near 12 Mile Road, is closed for the day.
Warren Mayor Jim Fouts says a letter was delivered to the court accidentally last week by the US Postal Service.
When the court attempted to forward the envelope to its intended recipient - Chrysler - it was returned as undeliverable.
Monday morning, a clerk opened the letter and white powder came out, triggering the HAZMAT situation.
Field testing has determined that the powder is most likely baby powder or foot powder. However, the powder and envelope have been taken away for further testing.
Four people were quarantined for a short time while the investigation was conducted. However, they have been cleared to go home.
