DETROIT (WXYZ) - Thousands of fans will pack downtown Detroit today for the Tigers home opener, but before they get to enjoy the game, they'll have to find a coveted parking spot.
Detroit Police suggest fans park in marked lots with attendants. The department is employing a zero-tolerance policy, which means vehicles that are parked illegally will be ticketed and towed.
The Detroit Tigers have released a handy 2013 season parking map which shows lots adjacent and around Comerica Park. The lots right across from the field along with the Tiger Garage will cost you $25 to park your car. But, if you look at a section of parking near Grand River --those are a little more reasonable, going for $5 a spot.
Of course, the People Mover is always an option if you can find more reasonably priced parking a little further away.
Commander Kenneth Williams offered common-sense tips last year to people heading downtown, saying they should lock their doors and hide their valuables even small amounts of money.
"We keep officers in that area to make sure the cars aren't broken into," said Williams. "But we want people to understand that if we saw them, and we're out here trying to do the right thing, then the folks out here who are trying to do the bad thing saw them as well."
Check out the parking map above for places to leave your car during the game.
