A mother talks about battling breast cancer while pregnant.
(WXYZ) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we want you to meet an amazing survivor.
She was actually pregnant, while being treated for cancer, and very scared.
Our Chief Health Editor Dr. Partha Nandi brings you her story Monday on 7 Action News at 11.
Little Adeline is a miracle born 19-months ago.
Sara Erzen from Holt was 34-years-old, busy taking care of two her daughters, Katey and C.C., and a breast lump was the last thing on her mind.
Sara says her OB/GYN near Lansing convinced her the lump was no big deal, because of her age.
At 21 weeks pregnant, Sara finally saw breast surgeon Dr. David Nathanson, with Henry Ford Health System.
Dr. Nathanson immediately ordered a biopsy. Then came the hard core chemotherapy.
When that treatment began, Sara was 26 weeks pregnant. Her 12-year-old daughter Katey was terrified.
But Katey found the strength to stand tall for her mom, her dad and her little sister C.C. She's now encouraging other kids in the same boat to stay positive.
Sara certainly kept her strength and fought hard, conquering chemo and eventually delivering her baby girl.
But Sara is quick to point out not all breast cancer stories have a happy ending like hers.
By the way, Adeline’s middle name is Faith and i think we all know why.
