Detroit's Northwest Side
(WXYZ) - A high speed police chase ended in Detroit with a crash and arrest Friday morning.
The pursuit began around 7 a.m. on 8 Mile Road near the Southfield Freeway after an officer pulled over a suspected car thief. The suspect assaulted the officer, rammed a police car and fled.
He then raced through areas of northwest Detroit weaving in and out of morning traffic. He also drove through neighborhood side streets, blowing through multiple stop signs.
At one point police lost the vehicle, but a metro chopper overhead was able to stay on it, and help police regain the suspect's location.
After about 15 minutes, the chase came to an end on
Livernois and Pembroke.
Police arrested the 39-year-old male driver from Detroit, who was in violation of his parole.
So far, no injuries have been reported.
