Wild police chase in Ferndale
Joe Taylor is locked up after police say he led them on a high speed chase Thursday afternoon.
Ferndale police Lt. William Wilson says he spotted Taylor speeding and tried to pull him over and eventually he did.
However, as soon as Lt. Wilson got out of his police cruiser and approached Taylor's car, he says Taylor sped off and raced through residential neighborhoods while running stop signs.
He says Taylor was going more 70 mph in a 25 mph zone.
"When someone's running like that, you don't know what it's for," says Lt. Wilson.
At the time, he didn't know Taylor was on parole for convictions that included armed robbery.
The chase finally came to an end after Taylor wound up on a dead end street.
"When he opened his door it gave me an opportunity to pin him between his door, his car and my patrol car. Luckily I was able to take advantage of that and get him stopped," says Lt. Wilson.
Police say they found an open can of beer in Taylor's car, but no weapon. They say he was driving on a suspended license.
"He took a minor offense and is now facing a 5 year felony," says Lt. Wilson.
No one was injured during the chase.
