(WXYZ) - The Mayor of Highland Park, Deandre Windom, is recovering after being shot on Sunday and says the community must work together.
"This senseless act of violence serves as a need for peace in our communities. We must come together for change," says Mayor Windom.
Mayor Windom was shot early Sunday morning at a night club in Detroit.
It happened just before 2:00 a.m. at the Key Club on Franklin.
Police tell 7 Action News, bouncers were in the process of clearing crowds from the club when someone started shooting.
Mayor Windom was hit, but police do not believe he was targeted.
No one else was shot.
Police say bouncers were able to detain a suspect until police arrived. He remains in custody.
