Michigan State students rally together, fundraise to pay for car damaged in wake of celebration

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ-TV) - Michigan State University's big football win on Saturday has been partly overshadowed by the excessive celebrations that followed. Now, one Spartan fan who was upset by the rowdiness says her faith in Spartan Nation has been restored.

Karen Wood, a senior at MSU, was disappointed Sunday morning when she saw the aftermath of Saturday's celebrations on her Facebook feed. More than a dozen people were arrested, nearly 60 fires were lit, and at least one car was flipped on its roof by the unruly crowd in East Lansing.

Without knowing who the car belonged to, Wood started a fundraising page on Gofundme.com. She set a goal of $3,000. In less than one day, more than 300 fans have helped exceed that goal.

Wood has since tracked down the owner and says he was surprised by the kind act of strangers. The money will be used to replace the vehicle, which was totaled.
