DETROIT (WXYZ) - I-94 between I-75 and M-10 is closed this weekend for work for the M-1 RAIL streetcar project.
The closure began at 9:00 p.m. on Friday and crews plan to re-open the freeway by 5:00 a.m. Monday.
During the closure, crews are demolishing the west half of the Woodward overpass above the freeway.
Westbound motorists are directed to southbound I-75, then westbound I-96 and back onto westbound I-94. Drivers headed east are directed to eastbound I-96, then northbound I-75 and back onto eastbound I-94.
One lane is open on eastbound I-94 from I-96 to M-10 and both northbound and southbound M-10 ramps are open as well.
One lane of Woodward is open in each direction, as well as a center turn lane over I-94. This is expected to stay in place until spring 2015.
The John R. Road entrance ramp to westbound I-94 as well as the eastbound exit ramp to John R. Road will also be closed.
