(WXYZ) - Inkster City Council members are still trying to decide what to do with the outrageous water bills residents have been receiving over the past several months.
The bills are reaching into the thousands. Residents blame newly installed smart meters for the hike.
The issue wasn't on Tuesday night's agenda -- but it's clear it isn't far from the minds of city leaders who have hired an agency to look into the high bills.
But that's not an immediate fix and some are worried if the problem isn't resolved, more people will move out of Inkster.
Council members talked about reducing rates by a third, but there are several steps that need to be taken before that can happen.
Meantime, residents are considering a class-action lawsuit. The group wants a judge to order city leaders to fix the problem.
