Judge orders May election for Troy mayor

TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) - If voters thought the controversy over Troy's mayor would end with a recall election, they were mistaken.

On Wednesday, the state was in court suing the city over how it is putting a new leader in place.

The city argued it followed the city charter when it appointed a mayor and scheduled an election for next November.

The attorney general said state law requires a February election.

The judge ruled that the election should have been scheduled for February, but there is not enough time to make it happen. She ordered city leaders hold an election in May.

The judge told city leaders and the Secretary of State's office to come up with a timeline for the election within the next five days.
