The Junior League of Detroit is hosting their 21st Designers' Show House in Grosse Pointe Park.

"We do this every other year. We've been doing it since 1976 and it's the Junior League of Detroit's larger fundraiser," Caroline Marks, a representative of the Junior League of Detroit, said. "There are some really neat things to see in this house."

This year, 21 designers and landscapers get a chance to showcase their talent in the historic home.

"We really encourage our decorators to go above and beyond and really push the limits," Marks explained. "And it is a chance for our guests to come in for two and a half weeks in public tours, it's a chance to get inspired and see something you might not have ever thought for your own house and think, 'ha I can do that.'"

She gives an example of black walls in a bedroom.

"Never in wildest mind would I think of doing that to my own house but you walk in that room and you are like, 'This is so cool!' And it's not dark. It's bright. It's beautiful."

The homeowners volunteered their home for the event.

Any permanent changes, like much of the kitchen, had to get approval by the homeowners.

"They really worked with the decorator one on one. There was a wall that came down. New flooring went in. So in that case it's not just on the decorator, the owner steps in."

The two-and-half-week event kicks off May 7th, the money from tickets will go to the Junior League's Project Eat program.

They are hoping to raise $250,000 for families in Detroit.

"It's all about education and access to healthy living and healthy eating habits and access to food."

The completed Designers’ Show House will be open for public viewing Saturday, May 7 through Sunday, May 22, 2016. Hours of operation are: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
