Local aspiring journalist gets to meet idol Bob Woodruff

(WXYZ) - With a grin from ear to ear, 16-year-old aspiring journalist Charlie Kadado has realized whether dreams are big or small, they do come true.

"Today is the day I discovered anything can really happen," said Kadado after learning 7 Action News was going to introduce him to the man who inspired him to become a TV news reporter-- and that did happen Friday night.

When it happened, Charlie said, "this is the best day of my life."

We first introduced you to the Macomb teen who has been writing for scholastic magazine.

He wrote a book called Sacrifice about a reporter based in Iraq.  The story was inspired by the true life story of reporter Bob Woodruff.

"I have followed his story for the past seven years. Every time he would do a report, I would watch it on TV and learn about the dangers reporters go through," said Kadado.

"He was watching, listening, and has questions to ask," Chuck Kadado said of his son.  "I said this boy is going to become a journalist."

Charlie's father joked, "I wanted him to become a lawyer."

Charlie's meeting with Woodruff happened at the Variety Children's Charity even in Royal Oak where Woodruff was being honored. Woodruff said, " this young man knows more about journalism than anyone I know," he added, "my advice to Charlie is to follow your dream and your passion and I know he will."  The two spent part of the evening together and Charlie left with a huge smile on his face.

Chuck Kadado told 7 Action News his son is so determined.

He has his own studio and is already a TVreporter in training. He has interviewed President Obama and the First Lady as well as Mitt Romney.

"He has accomplished at his age of 16 years old, more than I accomplished in my 76 years."

Friday night, Charlie was able to meet the person, the reason he has been so dedicated to broadcast journalism: Bob Woodruff.

"Channel 7 made it happen.  Channel 7… I can't thank you guys enough," said Charlie.  "I reached out to too many other people to try and help me, but Channel 7 was there to make it happen."

After meeting his idol, Charlie believes the sky is the limit to what he can accomplish.
