TAYLOR (WXYZ) - Officer Andrew Voelkner was fired by Taylor Police after he was accused of stealing a shotgun that had been assigned to fellow Officer Matthew Edwards who was killed in the line of duty.
Voelkner, 42, is now charged with multiple felonies including Larceny of a Firearm.
Investigators say the shotgun was taken from a supervisor's office at the Taylor Police Department.
Farmington Hills Police seized the shotgun during a domestic situation at Voelkner's home in January.
We're told Voelkner's wife called police, but was not physically harmed and Voelkner was not accused of threatening her with a firearm.
The weapons were taken as a safety precaution and the shotgun was turned over to Taylor Police.
Right now, Voelkner's attorney, James Amberg, says he cannot comment much more than to say he believes his client is innocent and will be exonerated.
It's unclear why Voelkner allegedly stole the shotgun. He's been released on bond and is set to be back in court on December 10th.
