(WXYZ) - A local doctor has offered to help a 12-year-old boy from the Gaza Strip get a new leg after he lost it to bone cancer.
On Wednesday, Moath arrived at Detroit Metro Airport for a trip sponsored by the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, an organization to help children from the Gaza Strip get medical treatment.
"It's an organization I really believe in--helping children, how could you say no to that," said Yasmeen Hamed, the woman who will host Moath for 3 months.
Hamed says she plans to introduce him to peace. Before last week's cease fire, the camp that was Moath's home was attacked.
Moath doesn't speak English, but in Arabic he said he can't wait to go home and play soccer with his new leg.
The 7 Action News Team plans to follow Moath's progress while he is here.
