PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WXYZ) - For nearly 10 years, professor Jean-Pierre Trias taught math off and on at Eastern Michigan University, but the 44-year-old is now sitting behind bars, accused of killing his wife.
Pittsfield Township Police say Katherine Kellogg Porter, 53, was found dead in the couple's home from multiple stab wounds.
Police say they went to the house on the 4700 block of Hickory Pointe Boulevard because they got a call requesting that officers check on someone in the home.
Investigators say Trias opened the door and made a comment to officers but police will not reveal what he said. They did observe Trias had sustained some injury to his face, but investigators won't say if they believe Porter tried defending herself.
Porter was a Senior Systems Analyst for a computer software firm in Ann Arbor. We're told she worked at that firm since 1999.
Trias lectured a math course during the Fall 2012 semester at Eastern Michigan University, but a university spokesman said Trias was not currently employed with them and was only used on a part-time basis, as needed.
Trias is due back in court on January 22 for a preliminary examination.
