LANSING (WXYZ) - Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway says that reports of her demise are exaggerated.
"Justice Hathaway has sent the other justices and Court staff an e-mail stating that the rumors that she is going to resign are NOT true," wrote court spokeswoman Marcia McBrien.
Earlier today, radio reports indicated that Hathaway's resignation was imminent, and that she'd step down before year's end. They cited unnamed sources.
The reports come in wake of the FBI's ongoing investigation into Hathaway for potential mortgage fraud. The federal probe was sparked by a 7 Action News investigation into a suspicious property shuffle Hathaway made prior to her bank granting her a short sale.
It's not clear when the FBI's investigation began, but 7 Action News has learned that grand jury subpoenas have already been issued. Even though the feds are investigating, it does not mean that charges are imminent.
