PHOTO: Kalamazoo man breaks state record with 37.4 pound black buffalo fish

(WXYZ) - A Kalamazoo man set a new state record when he reeled in a 37.4 pound black buffalo in Allegan County.

Bryan DeGoede was bowfishing in the Kalamazoo River when he landed the 39.3 inch fish at 11:50 p.m. on September 5.

The Department of Natural resources confirms DeGoede set a new state record with the catch. The previous black buffalo caught by Brad Nietering of Nunica on the Grand River in in Ottawa County in May of 2004. It weighted 33.25 pounds and measured 36.5 inches.
