STUDY: Spending too much time on Twitter, Facebook can disrupt your diet plan

(WXYZ) - A new study is showing that sites like Facebook and Twitter are making you eat higher fat, higher calorie food.

Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Colombia split 84 people into two groups.

One group browsed Facebook, while the other spent time on a news website. Both groups were offered a snack.

However, the majority of people in the Facebook group chose chocolate chip cookies over granola bars.

Researchers think social network use can decrease our self-control by enhancing our self-esteem. This can cause us to do things like overspend and overeat.

The best way to keep from making bad food choices while online, is to wait until you log off to eat so you can focus on your food choices.
