ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Ann Arbor News announced today that it will close in July. The paper will then be replaced by a web-based media company called AnnArbor.com.

Laurel Champion, the publisher of the paper, made the announcement in a 9:00 AM staff meeting. The paper will continue publishing daily through July.
In addition to its online work, AnnArbor.com will produce a twice weekly newspaper that will be published on Thursday and Sunday, as well as a total-market coverage product once a week. Ann Arbor News employees will be able to apply for positions at the new company.
AnnArbor.com is being positioned as more than just a Web site with articles. It will include social networking features, reporters equipped to report the news as it happens, and the ability to have reader input drive features on the site.
Community forums about AnnArbor.com have been scheduled for Thursday, April 2 at the Campus Inn at 2:00 PM and on Friday, April 3 at Weber's Inn at 10:00 AM. Additional forums will be announced on AnnArbor.com.
