SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - An e-mail scam making the rounds on the Internet tonight is playing on fears of the H1N1 flu to steal your personal information. The e-mail may look like it's official, but the health department is warning people not to fall for it.
The H1N1 flu in full force is cause for concern; now, people have something else to be worried about: an e-mail scam taking advantage of the vaccination program.
The e-mail in people's inboxes has been surfacing across the country, asking for information you shouldn't give out. The e-mail headline reads, "You have received this e-mail because of the launching of state vaccination H1N1 programs." It goes on to say, "You need to create your personal swne flu vaccination profile on the cdc.gov website."
The e-mail continues: "The vaccination is not obligatory, but every person that has reached the age of 18 has to have his personal vaccination profile on the cdc.gov site."
The e-mail also tells people their profile is required whether or not they've received the vaccination, and provides a link to click on.
