DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. and businessman Dave Bing faced off on the issues confronting Detroit in the second mayoral debate.
WATCH THE ENTIRE DEBATE IN THE VIDEO PLAYER ON THE RIGHTThe Detroit Economic Club hosted the luncheon and debate Wednesday afternoon at Cobo Center. The candidates are trying to win all the votes they can before the May 5 special runoff election.
The winner of the runoff will complete the second term of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who left office in September as part of pleas to two criminal cases.
Elections for a full four-year term beginning in 2010 start with a regularly scheduled August primary.
During the debate, Mayor Ken Cockrel says he has worked hard to move Detroit forward during very difficult times. Mayor Cockrel mentioned his recent budget proposal that he laid out to Detroit City Council. He says his plan will help the City tackle a multi-million dollar deficit.
Dave Bing says his focus is creating jobs that help the people and the city of Detroit. Bing also says if he were elected Mayor he would require his staff to sign ethics policies to maintain the integrity of his administration.
The 3rd and final debate will be held at Channel 7 Broadcast House Thursday, April 23 beginning at 8 p.m.
It will be broadcast live on-air, and WXYZ.com will stream the debate live as well.
