ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman has named a childhood disease specialist to head the school's health system, which employs 12,000 and has a $1 billion annual budget.
Coleman said Monday she's asking the university's board of regents to approve Dr. Ora Hirsch Pescovitz as executive vice president for medical affairs and chief executive of the U-M Health System. Action is expected March 19.
Dr. Robert Kelch plans to retire from the job this year.
The 52-year-old Pescovitz is a pediatric endocrinologist and graduate of Northwestern University Medical School. She's executive associate dean for research affairs at Indiana University School of Medicine.
