(WXYZ) -- In the longstanding tradition of political leaders making friendly bets on their sports teams, Congressman John Dingell is the first to wager on a Red Wings victory in the Stanley Cup Finals, throwing on the table a shipment of Coney dogs from Cheli's Chili Bar.
Dingell made his bet with Congressman Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania. Doyle will get the dogs from the restaurant owned by Detroit Red Wing Chris Chelios if the Pittsburgh Penguins take the Cup. If the Wings win, Dingell will be treated to a lunch from a famous restaurant in Pittsburgh called Primanti Brothers.
“I’m looking forward to a fine meal courtesy of my good friend Mike,” Dingell said in a statement. “The Red Wings have made us proud with a magnificent run and I am confident it will continue. The next time I see Chris Chelios, I expect to see him carrying Lord Stanley’s Cup, not a batch of Coney dogs.”
“The Penguins crushed the Flyers decisively, and I have no doubt they’ll win the Stanley Cup as well,” Doyle answered back in a statement. “I almost feel bad taking advantage of my chairman. Almost….”
