(WXYZ) - How would you like to save $1500 on energy costs at your home this year? You can do it without lowering your heat or suffering any discomfort whatsoever.

Tip Number 1: Shut down your fireplace when it's not in use. You can save $365.00 a year on this alone.
Tip Number 2: Change all lightbulbs to compact flourescent bulbs. This could save you $200 a year.
Tip Number 3: Add insulation to your attic. This can help you save up to $300 a year. If your home was built before 1995, you have about 6 inches of insulation. You should have 16 inches. The best you can buy is blown cellulose and you can install it yourself just by renting an insulation blower.
Tip Number 4: Seal all air leaks around the plumbing portals in your home. Savings Value -$300 a year. The holes are easy to find and so is the fix. All you do is fill the gaps with fresh caulk.
Tip Number 5: Seal the holes behind your light switches as well.
Tip Number Six: Stop blocking the air vents. It will increase heat flow in the house saving you $100 a year.
Tip Number Seven: Replace your old thermostat with a digital thermostat. This could save you $200.
