Early Holiday Toy Deals

Last Update: 11/04 10:43 am

(WXYZ) - Retailers know many people will be pinching their pennies this holiday season. That’s one reason why stores are not wasting any time trying to woo your wallet with toy discounts. For many shoppers, the hunt for holiday toy deals is on!

“This year in particular I think ‘less is more,’” says Rebecca Starr, a mother shopping for toys at the Target in Southfield.

“We’re trying to not do as much as we might normally.”

Teena Brogdon of Detroit has only 3 more gifts to buy before her holiday shopping is completed.

“Low prices, very low prices,” she smiles.

“That’s what you’re looking for?” asks Channel 7 Action News Reporter Alicia Smith.

“Yes, oh yes.” Teena answers.

Bargains Abound

Stores are trying to one-up each other with the discounts they are rolling out already. You might call it the “Toy Wars.”

Wal-Mart announced 100 additional toy rollbacks this week. That’s on top of the “100 Toys for 10-Dollars” deal already in place.

The latest rollbacks include the Bakugan Starter Pack for $8.00 – a 33% savings.

The Buzz Lightyear Talking Action Figure is selling for $29.00 – a 17% discount.

And board games like Candyland and Chutes and Ladders are going for $5 a piece.

Target is trying to tempt toy buyers with temporary price cuts.

The Bakugan Combat Set is currently $9.99 – a 16% savings.

The Uno Flash Game is $27.99 – 6% off.

And the Holiday Barbie is $34.99 – a 12% discount.

More savings and coupons that are good through November 25th will be coming out in Target’s toy catalog this week.

One deal which is included is a half-off coupon for the Leap Frog Alphabet Pad.

Dollar stores are also staying competitive.

Family Dollar is offering its “Five-Dollar Toy and Gift” program.

Toys like the Disney Princess Tea Set, Five-Pack Hot Wheels, and Hot Wheels Service Center play set are also selling for only $5 each.

Other featured toy deals include the High School Musical 3 PlayStation 2 Dance Pad for $10 and the Guitar Hero III for $20.

Meijer also just announced that it will slash prices on 400 popular toys. A number of toys cost less than $5.

Some of the discounted toys include:

Hot Wheels Basic Cars – now $.88
Disney Cars character with eyes: now $3.58
Littlest Pet Shop Teeniest Tiniest Take along Pets: now $5.00
Polly Pocket Fab fit doll packs: now $5.00
Bakugan Starter Pack: now $9.88
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Deluxe Action Figures: now $10.00

The toy deals are there if you take the time to look. Many bargains will be around through December 24th. Some discounts are for a limited-time only.

So, make sure you read the fine print when you are looking at on-line deals or print ads.
