WIXOM, Mich. (WXYZ) - A robbery suspect is in police custody after being driven off from a gas station by the employees.
Police say the man tried to rob the Sunoco station at I-96 and Wixom Road just before 7:00 a.m. Witnesses say he came in, dressed all in black, and announced a hold-up. He also indicated he had a gun.
As he approached the counter, the three employees of the station backed away. They say that's when he came around and began emptying the register. The employees then began throwing whatever they could get their hands on at the man.
He then ran away, with two employees hot on his heals. The third employee called police. The two employees chasing the man caught up with him on I-96, where they began fighting with him. However, the suspect was able to get away again, before being arrested by a Wixom officer. It is believe an off-duty Detroit Police officer aided in the arrest.
Officers are still searching the area because no weapon was found on the suspect. The 42-year-old was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains.
