The FACTS are that Nutro was purchased by global giant Effem/Mars in May 2007. The company has a history of quality/recall problems. This is NOT the food it once was. Mars has been buying up what were good brands. Royal Canin, for example. Blind (and ignorant) brand loyalty is dangerous. http://www.nutroproducts.com/press5-1-07mars.shtml

Zetaradiant: I am very sorry for your loss. No words will help, and only time will lessen the pain. Unfortunately, thanks to Nutro, my best friend is now also a pile of ashes. For some reason, those on this website love Nutro, and I sincerely hope that they do not share our experience.

I also want to add that Nutro is cooperating with my family and appears to be taking responsibility for my cat's death. I go to the vet tomorrow to pick up my cat's ashes. The house isn't the same without her.

Nutro killed my cat last week. Its one thing to hear about the recall on TV. Its another to have to witness a perfectly healthy cat die by her own cat food. You can continue to feed your cat/dog Nutro but I have test results to prove that Nutro's mistake with the zinc levels is responsible for my cat's death. My vet personally called Nutro to make them aware of the situation. Good luck to all! I am now without my cat.

I forgot to say that I am going to continue to buy Nutro for Ink!

inksmom - 5/29/2009 10:39 AM
I called my vet. The recall was because there was a problem with a batch that had too much zinc and not enough potassium in the mix. She said Ink should be fine but to return the food. I love nutro cat and dog food. It was the only food I could feed my dog that didnt make his fur fall out because he is allergic to corn. So many "special" brands have corn in them.
