WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Numerous calls have come in from viewers after an Action News story about the impending foreclosure of a farm that takes care of abandoned horses.
The Equine Star Foundation in White Lake Township says it was given until today to pay Wells Fargo bank more than half a million dollars.
The foundation says it has about 30 to 60 days to find new homes for the 31 horses currently being taken care of.
They're looking for people who can adopt a horse and also for donations to cover feed and medical care until the horses have new homes.
Volunteers on the farm are needed as well. Ideally, they're hoping someone purchases the farm and rents it back to the foundation.
The 70-acre farm that's home to rescued horses is being foreclosed on, and the animals may have nowhere to go. The farm's owner thought she had more time, but the bank wants $550,000 this week.
Polly was injured in a car accident while pulling an Amish cart, Lady Jayne was saved from a slaughterhouse, and A.J. was just dropped off one day by his owner who no longer wanted him.
The Equine Star Foundation rescues horses, takes care of them, and then adopts them out. But home on the Haley Hills Farm is about to come to an end.
Joan Tucker says declining donations, the increase in prices of feed and medical care, and a messy divorce have caused her to fall behind on her payments to the bank.
There are 31 horses on the farm, including Bubbles, who at 36 is the oldest. More than 70 horses have been rescued since the foundation opened six years ago. Tucker says she has no idea where the horses will go if she's evicted this week.
If you would like to help the Equine Star Foundation with a donation, by adopting an animal, or by helping them find a buyer who will lease the farm back to them, you can contact them through their website or by calling (248) 820-2125.
