Let's not forget that the Republicans also worked tirelessly to come up with alternative proposals. If the vote had been up to the American taxpayers it would have been rejected by almost 60%. But in the end, it was Pres Bush despite overwhelming criticism, who provided the handout.

Therese, I was reading the posts and wanted to correct one thing. Congress doesn't vote on their pay raises. There is a policy in place that automatically provides pay raises. What congress has failed to do is to vote to change that policy so that they do have to vote, that way the American people could see which members of congress did vote for a raise.

And I quote: "The Senate rejected the bailout 52-35 on a procedural vote — well short of the 60 required — after the talks fell apart. Just 10 Republicans joined 40 Democrats and two independents in backing it. Three Democrats sided with 31 Republicans in opposition"

BabyHuey9995, please know you politics. It only takes a simple majority to pass the House but it takes 60 votes to pass the Senate. There are not 60 Democrats in the Senate!

Tripper, you wouldn't know ANYTHING about college; you didn't graduate high school.

I might be a good fit with Hamas, but you would be a good fit with HUMUS. Spread your brains on a piece of pita . . . .well, it MIGHT serve one person.

Since DW is STUPID, read this, MORON - “The agreements were signed in December 8, 1993 by the leaders of the three countries — Brian Mulroney of Canada, Carlos Salinas de Gortari of Mexico, and Bill Clinton of the United States” Mmmmmm, I don’t see a BUSH on there anywhere. Obame ALSO agrees with NAFTA!! Sucks to be stupid.

Scott, do the math, the Dems OWN both houses of congress. They couldn't enough DEMOCRATS to sign off on it.
