(WXYZ) The frigid temperatures that are moving into our area provide a challenge to road crews trying to keep the highways and byways safe.

When the temperature drops, the effectiveness of the salt crews use also plunges. So when temperatures get to where our forecast are calling the rock salt has almost no affect on snow and ice.
To combat the problem, crews are out trying to clear everything away before the temperature drops too low. They're also using a brine solution to treat the roads, because it's more effective than straight road salt.
