MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Macomb County prosecutor, angry about budget cuts, is fighting back by slapping the county commission with a lawsuit.
Prosecutor Eric Smith and Sheriff Mark Hackel faced commissioners Tuesday, battling against the cuts. The heated exchanges were spread out over an hour, between some of the 14 commisioners who voted for deep cuts to the prosecutor's budget, and Eric Smith himself, who says that he needs to hire more staff. He says he deserves more, because both he and Sheriff Hackel have already made cuts to give back millions to the county to support budget shortfalls.
Smith told Action News that his office will retain the Fieger law firm and will likely file suit against the county commission.
