TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) - The ripple effect from changes in the auto industry is claiming nearly five hundred automotive advertising and public relations jobs.
The lobby of the BBDO Detroit building in Troy sits empty, as workers were sent home early after being told of plans to close the Detroit area office at the end of January when its contract with Chrysler expires.
The countless awards on the wall are a reminder of sixty years of memorable marketing campaigns like "Built Ram Tough," and "Yeah, it's got a Hemi in it."
About 485 jobs will disappear, a casualty of the evolving auto industry landscape.
"This is their livelihood. These people feel Chrysler is their family," said Jocelyn Weiss Malas, BBDO spokeswoman. "Even after they were told, many went back to work. They are committed to Chrysler. That's the sort of people they are."
