(WXYZ) - The NOAA's National Weather Service is recognizing The Mall at Partridge Creek as the first "Storm Ready" shopping center in the United States.
Robbie Stark is the general manager for the mall and he says that customers can shop at the outdoor mall knowing that the facility is doing its best to keep them safe.
"Storm Ready" is a National Weather Service program which helps communities and businesses take a proactive approach in monitoring weather and improving safety skills.
In addition to receiving weather training, the mall has installed its own 24-hour weather station. They monitor weather on radio, online and even get text messages regarding severe weather. If rocky weather is approaching, stores and shoppers are notified via a speaker system. Chad Kozen owns "Three Dog Bakery" and he says he is thrilled to know that he can concentrate on his customers while the mall is keeping things safe.
Partrdige Creek is just the second facility in Michigan, alongside Detroit Metro Airport, to be designated a "Storm Ready" business.
