ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WXYZ) - Prayers are being said for a priest who is fighting for his life.
Father Gerry Bernier is currently in isolation after returning earlier this month from his native Trinidad with flu-like symptoms he thought were just minor. But then he got the diagnosis: double pneumonia and swine flu.
Bernier, 55, is a student at Sacred Heart Seminary and his home church is St. Joan of Arc in St. Clair Shores.
Though he's only been with St. Joan of Arc for two years, church leaders and members say he's already left an impression with his laughter, bubbly personality, and unique presence at the pulpit.
Father Gerry is in a medically-induced coma and on life support in the intensive care unit at Oakwood Annapolis Hospital.
