Welcome to Spokane, Washington, where enemy soldiers have taken over. At least that's what will happen in the remake of "Red Dawn," the movie being shot in metro Detroit. Actually, the Spokane neighborhood is really Kendrick Street in Mount Clemens, which is now a huge movie set.
Neighbors say they are loving it.
"It's been a flurry of excitement the past few days," one nearby resident said. "People up and down the street, the moving trucks."
The remake of "Red Dawn" is similar to the original. Teenagers go to battle after Chinese and Russian soldiers invade. And there will be plenty of action.
The filmmakers are making use of the entire neighborhood. At one location the wreckage of a plane - or at least part of that wreckage - sits in a neighbor's driveway. And across the street they've got the cockpit of the airplane. That's part of an explosion scene where a house is detonated.
The plane will actually hit a house. Not to worry -- it's a fake. Producers built it on a vacant lot and will fill it with pyrotechnics.
The cast of the "Red Dawn" remake includes Chris Hemsworth, who played George Kirk in the latest "Star Trek" movie, Josh Peck, known for the voice of Eddie in the "Ice Age" movie, and Adrian Policki, who had a role in "Friday Night Lights." The movie shoots until December.
