The "hateful" comments that I heard from some people shows insecurity in their lives and I agree with you it is a normal human behavior but is it necessary? Not really. This is America where all people supported each other for "Our Freedom and Liberty" just like when President Obama asked Americans (people lives here regardless of status) to volunteer in making this country better and we all positively contributed to his message. Just like the citizens, they uphold the betterment of their "home" by studying hard so they can give positive future advantages for their land of liberty. Now, I would careless toward those (criminal minded) that make our lives in fear a.k.a (terrorists, gangs, drug dealers) geez make them work in community services first for their indiscipline behaviors, then send them back to their home country. But these "others" people buy products that has sales tax in it, willing to pay fines if necessary, and would gleefully pay taxes and support the system unlike "some" rich minority that decided to evade tax or enter a war without learning its negative impacts (internal and global). Lastly, these people with given proper documentations will use their intellectual ability to create new Americans jobs that will results to surpluses toward the budget and faster recovery. So please stop being so insecure and be in our comfort zone without thought. Be productive and think positively that can help this country flourish and not shamed.

Just FYI- Extention was just granted! Thank you to everyone that supported Herta and her family! To all you haters, keep on hating! =D

daddydoe, I'm not against what you're saying. Charity does begin at home. But this family has worked, paid taxes, contributed to the community and given to multiple charities. They have paid their share for the food stamps and hand outs that half of Michigan is getting. they're here legaly and a productive part of the economy. They never got hand outs from you or me or the state. They've pulled their own weight. This particular case isn't about all the illegal immigrants that we're footing the bill for but don't forget there's plenty of US born losers that we foot the bill for. This family has paid for their health insurance and their doctor bills just like you and I do. They lived in an apartment in Grosse Pointe. I know, it sounds like such an expensive place to live but in reality when it comes to renting something small is the same as let's say Clinton Township. You don't have to take my word on this but as someone who knows first hand this family has done nothing but pull their own weight. You're right the economy sucks, the real estate market sucks, but how is it their fault. They're honest working people whose only fault was to want a higher education for their children. Unlike thousands of illegal immigrants they followed the proper chain of actions. All we're asking for is support for them and maybe pay it forward to them as they have supported our community in so many ways for so many years. Herta is an excellent college student. Is she taking some american's spot who earned? No, she earned the spot and she pays for her college. We as US citizens of this state haven't had to foot the bill for this family, which is shocking considering how much we pay out of pocket for lazy people. OfficeChick, I don't know Marc and maybe I do but yes, I would love to do lunch. If so many people can rally up and complain and scream for the law today, why can't we get this kind of voice for the rest of the issues in the state????

This is for Airforcegirl and zen ducky. About 10 to 40 yrs ago. somthing like this came up. It would of not been so much of a problem. But because the enconomy is so bad, the American people can't find jobs. people have lost the homes, no medical insurance to help the poor. Can we afford having people come over and get medical, food stamps, and a home. Is this right for the people who was born here. I is it the mom is living in a good area. Where is she getting the money from. Charity begins at home first then and only then when we can take care of ourself's. then we can start thinking of helping other countries, Half of the people that come here don.t respect us anyway. Think about it!

TheOfficeChick - 8/19/2009 11:02 AM
To all the folks who keep using the text "ILLEGAL" while discussing Herta: HERTA IS HERE LEGALLY! To AFG: I'm Marc's mom :) When all is said and done, we should do lunch!! Keep typing, girl, you are making a difference even if it doesn't seem like it here! Thank you for fighting for Herta!! We know the truth and hopefully DHS will know it, too!

Sorry AirForceGirl you too are beating a dead horse when you mention past immigrants. If you wanted things to change you should've been on that immigration band wagon a long time ago. You can't expect the system to change for you over nite just to accomodate you or your cause.

AirForceGirl - 8/19/2009 10:36 AM
You're beating a dead horse Union. The organization is trying to pass a bill for all the minors that are or have attended elementary/middle or high school in the US. They're just trying to do what's right for this kids. And it seems like you do need a history lesson. You've all forgotten where you came from.

ILOVEUNIONS - 8/19/2009 10:20 AM
We don't need a history lesson zen ducky. I find it interesting though that an organization is going to try and find a way to keep her here because she was a minor when she arrived and now a student. She's now trying to beat the system for her own gain and why should she get a free pass when there are other immigrants here doing everything right too? Just because you're in school doesn't make you special. Perhaps it's her mother who needs to go to school because if she still needs an interpreter after being here for 8 years, then that's a problem.
