(WXYZ) - Oak Park police are searching for a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a city police officer early this morning.
Investigators say the shooting of Officer Mason Samborski occurred about 12:30 a.m. at an apartment complex in Oak Park following a traffic stop a short time before that near 10 Mile and Greenfield.
The 28-year-old Samborski, a four-year member of the department, reportedly made a traffic stop and was taking the suspect, 16-year-old Jonathan Belton, to an address at a nearby apartment complex in connection with an investigation.
Apparently a struggle between Officer Samborski and Belton ensued in the hallway of the apartment complex and the officer was fatally shot. Police are not saying whether Samborski was shot with his own weapon.
Belton is considered armed and dangerous, and a manhunt involving Oak Park police and a special task force is underway.
Officer Samborski was married and had one child.
