Two Arrested in Downriver Robbery Spree

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A couple is facing charges of robbing four people in one day across the downriver area.

Edward Bitz and Regina Mendoza were arrested at their Romulus home Sunday. Bitz has been charged with armed and unarmed robbery. Mendoza has been charged with unarmed robbery.

Bitz and Mendoza, who have three children together, are accused of robbing three women and a man in Trenton, Woodhaven and Taylor. Officers say Bitz told the victims he needed the money for his children. They also say he was polite and apologetic to the victims, and returned items that they asked to keep.

Bitz is locked up in the Wayne County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He faces life in prison. Mendoza has been released on a $50,000 personal bond.
