LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) - The national unemployment rate has climbed above 10 percent, reaching its highest level since 1983. But here in Michigan, the situation is even more dire with a jobless rate of nearly 15 percent.
Jane Wenrick's story seems all to familiar.
"I was an ad exec with the Big 3," Wenrick says.
With more than 20 years experience, a series of untimely cutbacks has landed Wenrick at the unemployment office in Livonia.
She has been unemployed for several months, all the while she continues to spend her days looking for work. And she feels her professional experience is working against her.
"The trouble that I'm having is when you have a resume that says 'senior management,' everyone says you are too qualified.''
Yet Wenrick remains hopeful through this painful time that better days are ahead.
