It sounds like we need a translator. What language are they speaking?

We must be strong enough to report when something is going wrong in the neighborhoods. Believe me there are not many towns in this country where blacks have as much control as here in Detroit. We must clean up our town and work to keep it together. We need more training in how to build and maintain what we have. When I heard Kwame talk about a new Detroit I was concerned because The old Detroit is beautiful it just needs some care. When all the thieves are gone maybe the money can be used to put our city back together. We need not be quiet about the wrongs because maybe we feel guilty about something we may have done ourselves in the past. Get over it and let's not hand our town over to folk who don't care. Get our young ones working on fixing up so they have pride in the city and don't want it torn apart. Ask them to forgive us from what they have seen us do. Admit we were wrong and let them see we are trying to do better. And let's do better. All you crooks you know where the problems began. Tell it anon. and help our town out.Let's get it together. We can do it. Wave at these young boys so they know we see them and they don't have to get our attention by acting foolishly. And christian brothers and sisters repent for every time we sent our children out there telling them to "Hit them back" When they were young they used their hands. Now they use guns. We are paying a heavy price today. But let's turn it around. they don't let us pray in school but we can pray at home. Let's pray our city straight again. And the people who take the metal from our homes are getting a measly 40cent a pound for the aluminum they are destroying our city for. Tell on em. instead of telling your friend about what you have seen tell God and the police. Why can't we have training in our schools for rebuilding homes and use city owned property to learn on. other cities have character because you can see how they were built from what they have kept from the past.

abujaleel, there is a lot of money funneled to Detroit from the federal, state and county government. Do you know they get the bulk of county money? It's not about the money and the state taking care of them; it is about teaching respect that comes from the parents, as well as Detroit allocating monies to appropriate entities and not the wallets of those in charge. If you really want to see change, stop handing out condoms and birth control and teach these kids about marriage, respect and dignity. Give them shop classes in highschool to teach them the dignity of work and creating something. Teach them they are valuable, and stop taking kids away from parents who spank them. (abuse is a separate issue altogether) Most of these kids might have one parent that is taking care of them. More than likely the father is not present and if he is around, he's not taking care of the kids. Most of these kids probably have a caregiver on drugs, that's why they choose a life of crime. Married couples rarely churn out kids who are violent and/or drug abusers. Drugs is the #1 reason for violent crime, and most criminals come from single parent households.

listen to him speak and look at the area. I would not raise anything in detroit. listen to the young man in the red shirt. I would get him out of there so fast if he was mine. he is really smart and really has his head on straight. how do you stay focused though living in those conditions

abujaleel, It starts with the people...they have to want to make a difference in their neighborhoods...all the money in the world wouldn't make detroit streets a better or safer place...the people there make it dangerous...not the government...did you even listen to the way these child speak? WOW...that's english?

abujaleel: I feel sorry for you. Time to move to a better neighborhood, and leave it all behind.

Honestly its sad to hear what these kids are going through. The city and its official have let them down and they should be ashamed of themselves. I own a business in Detroit and I hate the fact that I have to talk to my customers behind a bulletproof windown 1 and half inch thick. The problem is that at any moment i could be robbed at gunpoint. There are no police, the response time is disgusting. The criminals know its easy to get away. I had to call 911 the other day and I swear to god the cops never showed. I do not blame the police I blame the federal government. Why don't the people of the city of Detroit demand that the federal government inject money for projects that will help rebuild the city of detroit. Its easy for them to put hundreds of billions to Iraq and Israel but they cannot even bring order to one of thier own cities? We need to demand that this city double or even triple the size of the police force with money from the federal government. Theres a cause to fight for.

I saw the video of the youngster equate violence with respect. Someone needs to teach these kids the difference between respect and fear. You don't respect someone who shoots you, you fear them.
