(WXYZ) - 100 volunteer drivers are needed Feb. 15 to assist in an emergency food delivery.
Because of the recent extreme winter weather, Macomb County Community Services is seeking volunteer drivers to drop off food boxes to homebound seniors next month for its Meals on Wheels program .
Last week, the arctic temperatures and heavy snow caused Meals on Wheels to cancel meal drop-off for three consecutive days. Emergency boxes in the upcoming delivery contain shelf-stable food items that will remain fresh if such a delay happens again this season.
Boxes will be picked up on Feb. 15 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Macomb County warehouse, located on Vic Wertz Drive (near Hall Road and Groesbeck Highway).
Volunteers must use their personal vehicles for delivery. Each route will take about two hours to complete.
